The Nigerian Senate has again asked Service Chiefs to step aside and allow fresh hands and ideas to tackle the myriad of security challenges in the country.
The Senate reached the resolution asking the Chief of Army Staff, Yusuf Buratai and other top security brass to quit their position, following a motion by the Chairman Senate Committee on Army, Ali Ndume.
Ndume, had in his motion drawn attention to the number of casualties suffered by the army in the current campaign against insurgents in the Northeast.
The motion also drew attention to what it called, an unprecedented low morale in the Nigerian with over 300 soldiers recently applying for voluntary discharge.
Providing additional amendment, Senator Francis Fadaunsi pushed that the current Service Chiefs should step down and give room for fresh ideas to be injected in tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.

Fadaunsi’s additional prayer was seconded by Senator Betty Apiafi and subsequently adopted by the Senate in a voice vote.
Senator Ibrahim Gobir, lamented the lack of sophisticated and modern equipment to fight with.
He narrated how insurgents reclaimed some villages almost immediately after a military bombardment.
Senator Istifanus Gyang supported the motion which prayed the Senate to observe a minute silence for Nigeria’s fallen heroes.
The Senate, however, mandated its Joint Committee on Police, Army, Defence, National Security and Interior to receive a briefing from the various security agencies and report back.
