Nigerian Singer TEMS wins her first Grammy Award

The 65th Annual Grammy Awards went down live at the Crypto.com Arena Los Angeles California United States on Sunday February 5, 2023 hosted for the third consecutive time by South African comedian television host Trevor Noah.

The grammies which celebrates outstanding achievements in the musical world saw Nigerian female singer Temilade Openiyi TEMS emerge the first Nigerian female act to win a Grammy.

Tems won in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category; for her collaboration on hit single WAIT FOR U by American rapper Future featuring Canadian rapper Drake.

The Melodic Rap Performance category requires a strong and clear presence of melody combined with rap cadence, which is inclusive of dialects, lyrics or performance elements; a category keenly contested by other international music acts such as Jack Harlow, Kenderick Lamar, DJ Khaled and Latto.
