Director-General of the National Biosafety Management Agency, Rufus Ebegba said this during a sensitisation workshop held in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, North-Central Nigeria.
There appears to have been a lot of miscommunication and theories in the public domain with regards to the state of Biosafety in the country.
The workshop was aimed at sensitising Nigerians on the state of Biosafety in the country, with regards to genetically modified organisms and their safety. It was also update the public on the activities of the Federal Government in the area of Biosafety management in the country.
Ebegba noted that the Federal Government has a responsibility towards the safety of Nigerians in terms of genetically modified organisms foods, and so whatever the Agency says is safe, Nigerians should believe it is safe.
He said globally safe science and technology have been known to be drivers of economic change and Nigeria cannot afford to be left behind in this area.
