The number of applicants enrolled to study in Nigeria’s 149 private universities is less than 10% of over two million admission spaces available each year.
The acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Chris Maiyaki, made this known in Abuja at a collaborative workshop with the British Council on Enhancing Curriculum and Pedagogical Approaches in Nigerian Universities.
Maiyaki emphasised the need for continuous curriculum reform in Nigerian universities to enable them adapt in a fast-changing world.

The National Universities Commission is currently implementing the core curriculum minimum academic standard, CCMAS, after dropping the Benchmark minimum Academic standards, BMAS, in 2022.
