The Federal Government has called for stronger collaboration among Nigerians, the Media, Civil Society Organisations, and security agencies in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism across the country.

Speaking at a National Press Briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said terrorism remains a threat to national peace and security and can only be defeated through a united national response that rises above political, ethnic, religious, and regional differences.

He noted that the government’s nationwide campaign, #UniteAgainstTerror, is aimed at mobilising citizens to stand together against terrorism and criminality, stressing that an attack on one Nigerian is an attack on all.

The Minister also reassured Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to securing the safe return of school children and teachers recently abducted in Oyo and Borno States.

According to him, security Agencies have intensified intelligence gathering, surveillance, and rescue operations to secure their release and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Highlighting recent security gains, Idris said Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised dozens of terrorists, rescued civilians, and destroyed terrorist infrastructure in the North-East region of the country. He added that security operations across other regions have dismantled criminal camps, disrupted kidnapping networks, and enhanced the protection of critical national assets.

The Minister also cited recent terrorism convictions, including those linked to the 2022 Owo Church attack, describing justice as a vital component of national security.
