The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says it will commence nationwide ward-level enrollment for the National Identification Number (NIN) on Monday, February 16, 2026.

Caption: The move follows a presidential directive mandating the Commission to take NIN registration to the grassroots across all wards in the country.

In a statement, NIMC said the exercise is aimed at ensuring the comprehensive registration of all Nigerian citizens and legal residents, both children and adults, into the National Identity Database.

The Commission emphasized that the enrollment will be conducted free of charge, in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, geared towards promoting inclusive governance, national development, and improved access to identity services.

According to NIMC, the ward-level initiative is a strategic step to deepen identity inclusion by decentralizing services and bringing registration closer to communities. The Commission noted that the approach is expected to improve accessibility, reduce travel burdens, and encourage wider participation nationwide.

To ensure a smooth rollout, NIMC said it has commenced stakeholder engagement and sensitization campaigns at the national, state, and local government levels to highlight the importance and benefits of the NIN.

The Commission disclosed that state governments, local government authorities, traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, and faith-based organizations are being consulted to facilitate seamless registration across all wards.

NIMC urged Nigerians and legal residents who are yet to enroll to take advantage of the exercise, encouraging families to register their children, parents, wards, and other relatives within their communities.
The ward enrollment schedule, including details of the rotational deployment of licensed front-end partners and NIMC staff, is available on the Commission’s official website.
