Nine members of the same family have been killed in a fresh attack on Wereng-Camp and Kum communities in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association, BYM, says one other resident sustained critical injuries, as renewed calls emerge for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities.
According to the association, armed attackers stormed the communities at about 11 p.m. on Saturday, with the assault lasting for more than an hour into the early hours of Sunday.
The group said one other resident sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Describing the incident as another tragic setback to peace efforts in the state, BYM said the recurring attacks continue to inflict heavy human and economic losses on affected communities through the destruction of lives, homes and livelihoods.
The association called on the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen security operations, dismantle criminal hideouts, apprehend those behind the attacks and ensure they are prosecuted.
It also appealed for urgent humanitarian assistance for affected families and displaced persons, while calling on the international community to support efforts aimed at addressing the worsening humanitarian and security situation in North-Central Nigeria.
At the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
