Delta state governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has emphasised the need for mutual relationship among communities as there has never been an alternative to peace anywhere in the world.
Governor Okowa who gave this admonition at government House Asaba while receiving report of the Judicial Panel of Enquiry into the intra- communal crises in Evwreni Ughelli North Local Government area of Delta state emphasized that no meaningful development could thrive in an atmosphere of rancour.
Governor Okowa received the 3 volume report with seven recommendations from the chairman of the 6-man judicial panel of inquiry Justice Nduka Obi and promised to come up with a white paper that will bring a lasting solution to the lingering crisis in Evwreni Community.
The Governor commended the chairman and members of the panel for their tenacity to conclude their report within the stipulated time and assured that his administration will not compromise its earlier stand of encouraging communities to invest in peace building.
Okowa recalled the current insecurity and economic challenges confronting the country and advised the people of Evwreni to uphold peace and love so as to allow the efforts of government yield the desired result.
Justice Nduka Obi said preparing the report of the Evwreni crisis which led to a number of deaths, destruction of property with its resultant displacement of people took them to correctional center where two of the actors were remanded, and to the village where they conducted public sittings.
The panel was charged with establishing the immediate and remote cause of the crisis, ascertaining roles played by individuals, groups and their sponsors, and to look into and resolve any other issues that will bring lasting peace to the community.
