The Nollywood film industry has again been thrown into mourning with the loss of one of its members; sixty-three years old Cynthia Okereke who died in the early hours of Wednesday July 12th 2023 at the age of 63.

Chairman Actors Guild of Nigeria Delta State chapter Emma Onyemeziem and a colleague of the deceased Joseph Okechukwu who broke the news of Okereke’s death via their social media accounts noted that the actress who has been managing her health for a while died from an undisclosed ailment.

Joseph Okechuwku in an Instagram post wrote:

“REST IN PEACE, Nwanyi oma. I’m shattered beyond words. The fact that I was about to pay for your flight ticket to come to finish what we started only to hear you went to be with Lord just last night is one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to deal with in recent times.

“I pray I’m able to recover from this shock. Life is really just a mist. One minute you have it, the next you don’t. For the more than 20 years that I’ve known you, you’ve been such an amazing, decent, and lovely soul to be around

I never imagined you’d exit so unceremoniously. Words fail me. Sleep on, Cynthia. May your gentle soul rest on till we meet again in glory.”

Cynthia Okereke who began her acting career in 1998 was born April 20th, 1960 and hailed from Enugu State South East Nigeria.

Cynthia Okereke has acted in movies such as “King Jaja of Opobo,” “Osuofia in London”, “A Fool at 40” “Nwando” among other films.

In 2022, the actress and her colleague Cornell Clemson were abducted in Ozalla Town Enugu State while returning from a movie location but they later regained their freedom.
