As farmers across Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria, prepare for the rainy season, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has uncovered an alleged fertiliser adulteration syndicate accused of endangering agricultural production and exploiting struggling farmers.
The Zamfara State Command paraded a suspect allegedly involved in the manufacturing, blending, sale and distribution of adulterated fertiliser packaged in counterfeit branded bags.
The bags of product loaded inside a truck were allegedly prepared for distribution to unsuspecting farmers ahead of the planting season.

Authorities say the illegal activity could have caused major losses for farmers by reducing crop yields and threatening food production in communities already battling insecurity and economic hardship.
NSCDC State Commandant, Umar Mohammed, warned that the command will double its efforts to identify and crack down on syndicates involved in the illegal activity and related crimes.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the suspect, Mustapha Sani will be handed over for judicial arraignment
