The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Gombe State, has recorded fresh breakthroughs in its fight against violent crimes and vandalism, with the arrest of a key suspect who masterminded the vandalisation of the electricity cable supplying power to the NNPCL depot.
The Command also recovered nearly a thousand metres of vandalized power transmission cables and arrested a suspect in a separate culpable homicide case.
On October 16,, operatives arrested 22-year-old Abdulrahman Ali, who allegedly vandalized the armoured cable supplying electricity to the NNPCL depot in Gombe.
The Command said the cable was sold for ₦100,000 before the suspect was nabbed while attempting to flee the State.
In a separate operation, security operatives, working with the Lubo Community Security Committee, recovered 968.4 metres of vandalised aluminium power transmission cables along the Lubo-Zambuk axis of Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area.
According to the State NSCDC Commandant, Mohammed Inuwa Usman, the suspected vandals fled on sighting the security operatives, and efforts are ongoing to track them down.
The Command also reported a homicide case in Kwami, where 21-year-old Idris Mohammed allegedly stabbed Usman Jibrin Isah with a pair of scissors following a disagreement, resulting in the latter’s death.
The suspect was apprehended by NSCDC personnel.
The State Commandant told journalists that investigations into all three cases are ongoing, with the suspects to be charged to Court upon their conclusions.
The Corps said it remains committed to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as safeguarding lives and property in Gombe State.
