Rivers State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Dennis Reuben, has directed the command’s Intelligence and Investigation Department to initiate internal investigation into the killing of Itekena George by an operative.
In a statement signed by the Rivers State Public Relations Officer, Ihemnacho Umeado, the Commandant expressed deep regret over the loss of life.
He assured the public that the investigation would be discreet and comprehensive, covering all circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred on July 15, 2026.
Commandant Reuben, noted that the incident might be linked to the current upsurge in cultism and criminal activity in the area.

He emphasised that the NSCDC remains committed to upholding professionalism, the rule of law, and the protection of all citizens.
The Commandant urged residents to remain calm and avoid violent protests that could escalate tensions, stressing that the command is committed to transparency and accountability.
