The operation started at a filling station along Owerri-Onitsha road where suspected illegal oil activities were taking place, then moved to Osemotor in Oguta Local Government Area, and later, Nmahu in Ohaji-Egbema.

The NSCDC Commandant, Michael Ogar, who defied the day’s downpour and joined the operation said he was committed to stamping out illegal oil Activities in Imo State.

The team destroyed some of the equipment used for the illegal business, and also set ablaze a tanker loaded with the product.

The impact of oil exploration on the environment has become a huge concern as Nigeria loses an average of 200,000 barrels per day of its crude oil to vandals and oil bunkers.
It is hoped that the NSCDC strategy would stamp out the illegal practices.
