The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, has expressed condolences to the Nigerian Air Force and families of those on board an ATR-42 aircraft that crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State.
The Nigerian Air Force says the aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred on Monday, October 5.
Search and Rescue operations have since been activated in coordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies.
In a statement signed by its Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Captain Alex Badeh Jnr, the NSIB said it stands ready to provide technical assistance to the Air Force, if formally invited.
The Bureau says such assistance could include deploying investigators and using its Flight Safety Laboratory to recover, read and analyse flight recorder data.
The NSIB explained that because the aircraft involved is military, investigative responsibility rests with the Nigerian Air Force.
It urged the public to rely only on official updates from the Air Force on the rescue operation and investigation.
