The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, (NUPENG) Delta state chapter has ordered all oil services in the state to shut down with effect from Wednesday night.
AIT gathered that, NUPENG had been at loggerheads with Sterling Energy Exploration company, SEEPCO, an oil firm operating in kwale, Ndokwa west local government area of Delta state over unfriendly labor laws.
Confirming the development, NUPENG zonal Chairman, Comrade Innocent Iyere, told AIT via phone conversation that the Union’s decision to shut down oil services in the state had become imperative due to what he describes as SEEPCO’s exploitation of its workers.
He said despite efforts made by NUPENG to address the lingering labour issues between its members and the oil firm, SEEPCO has continued to remain adamant.
NUPENG says its action in Delta state will not only draw the attention of relevant authorities but also pave way for dialogue between both parties.
