National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Borgu Branch in Niger State, North-Central Nigeria has announced the suspension of transport services along major routes in the area.
This follows persistent incidents of abduction and terrorism affecting motorists and commuters.
The indefinite strike, which takes effect from Saturday, August 8, is expected to result in the total closure of the New Bussa–Mokwa Road and other major routes linking communities in the affected areas.
According to the union, all branch chairmen have been directed to suspend transport operations on routes connecting Mokwa, New Bussa, Magama and Mashegu through Zugurma until further notice.
The decision, the union said, was taken in response to the worsening security situation and the continuous attacks on motorists and passengers travelling along the routes with the development expected to significantly affect commercial transportation and the movement of people and goods between Mokwa, New Bussa, Magama, Mashegu and surrounding communities.

The affected corridor has reportedly witnessed repeated incidents of armed attacks, abduction and other criminal activities in recent times, raising serious concerns among transport operators and residents.
The NURTW is calling for urgent intervention by the relevant security agencies and governments to secure the affected highways and restore confidence among motorists and commuters.
As of the time of filing this report, the Mokwa-Kainji Road is currently blocked by the NURTW to enforce the strike.
