Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned an image his media office says was generated using artificial intelligence to suggest that political candidates sought Pope Leo the Fourteenth’s blessing for electoral victory.
The image, seen by AIT, depicts Obi, Cardinal John Onaiyekan and the NDC’s Enugu State governorship candidate, Chinyeaka Oha, standing before the Pope.
In a statement, the Peter Obi Media Office described the image as deceptive and misleading and warned against using religious institutions for political advantage.
Obi urged political opponents to keep the Pope and the Catholic Church out of partisan campaigns.
The statement said the Church’s spiritual responsibilities should be respected.
Obi also urged candidates to focus on poverty, insecurity, corruption, economic hardship and opportunities for young Nigerians.
He challenged them to debate their records, policies, competence, character and vision for the country.
He said the 2027 general election should be about Nigeria’s future rather than what he described as fabricated religious controversies.
