The Ogun State Government says it has committed 157.9 billion naira to pension-related payments since the inception of the Dapo Abiodun administration in May 2019.

The latest intervention is the release of 5.83 billion naira for gratuities and additional pension benefits to retirees in the state. The funds were approved at the September 24, 2026, meeting of the Joint Accounts Allocation Committee as part of efforts to clear outstanding retirement obligations.

The Head of Service, Olanrewaju Saka, said 4.91 billion naira of the latest release would settle gratuities for local government pensioners who retired in 2022 and State Universal Basic Education Board retirees who retired in 2021.

He said the remaining 918.6 million naira would go to eligible retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme.

Saka said the government had also released 4.12 billion naira in additional pension benefits to retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme since the beginning of 2026.

He explained that the cumulative commitment of 157.9 billion naira covers gratuities, pension payments, deductions under the Contributory Pension Scheme, accrued pension rights, pension arrears, returns on investment, death benefits and other interventions.

According to him, 105.39 billion naira has been paid in pensions to more than 16,400 beneficiaries, while 29.12 billion naira has been paid as gratuities to 7,390 beneficiaries.

The government also committed 7.78 billion naira to deductions under the Contributory Pension Scheme for nearly 30,000 beneficiaries between July 2025 and August 2026.

The Head of Service said the sustained investment demonstrates the administration’s commitment to the welfare of retirees who contributed to the development of Ogun State.

He assured pensioners that the government would continue to honour its obligations and deploy available resources towards settling outstanding retirement benefits.
