The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major operational breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
The information contained in a Press statement signed by the Deputy Police Relations Officer Ogun State Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi explained that the operation resulted in the safe rescue of an abducted victim, the neutralisation of two suspected kidnappers, and the recovery of two AK-47 rifles.
25 rounds of live ammunition, two mobile phones, ₦2 million cash and other exhibits suspected to be connected to the criminal activities of the gang were also recovered by the Police.
The victim, a professional truck driver, was abducted on August 25, 2026, at about 11:10 p.m. around the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.
Following the report, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately commenced intelligence-led efforts to locate and rescue the victim and apprehend the perpetrators.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the operatives subsequently stormed the suspected kidnappers’ hideout along the Papalanto Ilaro Road.
During the tactical operation, two suspected members of the gang were neutralised, while other members reportedly fled the scene with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.
A search of the hideout led to the recovery of two AK47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm live ammunition, two mobile phones and ₦2 million cash, reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The remains of the two suspected kidnappers have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while intensified efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for their gallantry, professionalism, courage and operational effectiveness.
The Commissioner said the successful operation further demonstrates the Command’s determination to relentlessly pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals wherever they may seek refuge.
CP Ojajuni reiterated that Ogun State would remain a hostile terrain for criminal elements, assuring residents that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, tactical operations and strategic partnerships with communities to safeguard lives and property.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain security conscious and provide the Police with timely, useful and credible information, particularly on persons seeking medical treatment for suspected gunshot injuries, as such information could assist ongoing efforts to apprehend fleeing members of the gang.
