Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC has carried out 81 major operations in Rivers State, South-South Nigeria leading to the arrest of several suspected pipeline vandals and those trading in illegal mined petroleum products.
State Commandant, Dennis Reuben, who stated this during a briefing to highlight the progress made in combating illegal oil bunkering in his 100 days in office, says the adherence to the directive of the Corps Commandant-General to foster robust inter-agency synergy, through its mines and steel unit, is paying off.
Reuben says the mine and steel unit of the command, intercepted a tanker carrying 45,000 litres of suspected illegal ethanol and arrested six suspects.
He further stated that additional operations led to the arrest of 32 suspects with six trucks, alongside the arrest of four suspects caught with two trucks loaded with vandalised oil pipeline materials.
Cumulatively ,the command has effected 81 major cases resulting in the arrest of 148 suspects, out of which 11 have been successfully convicted, while 20 others are undergoing prosecution in courts of competent jurisdiction.
On the activities of private security guards in the state, the Rivers State NSCDC boss said, the command has clamped down on six private guard companies for violating the rules and regulations governing their establishment .
He issued a stern warning to individuals undermining the peace and security of Rivers State residents as well as safety of national assets to cease their activities and leave the state immediately or face the full wrath law.
