Omotola-Jalade, Dakore, others pledge to stop smoking scenes in movies

The campaign for a Smoke Free Nollywood has gained the support of top actors in the industry.

The high profile celebrities which include producers, directors, actresses, and actors teamed up to denounce the promotion of tobacco products in Nigerian movies; an action mostly targeted at children.

The celebrities joined forces with the#smokefreenollywood campaign and other International partners to celebrate the World No Tobacco Day 2021.

The celebrities that pledged their support for the campaign include Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Dokore Egbuson-Akande, Osas Ighodaro, Anto Lecky, Meg Otanwa, Michelle Dede, Kayode Kasum, Daniel Effiong, Linda Ejiofor, Kiki Omeili, and Imoh Emmanuel Chimezie.

The World Health Organization estimates that about 370,000 children in Nigeria smoke daily with research showing a significant percentage of current adult smokers were influenced by movies.
