The Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has issued a two-week ultimatum to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, demanding urgent intervention over what it describes as worsening welfare conditions crippling the state’s health sector.
In a statement made available to journalists on Monday, the State Chairman of the association, Muyiwa Alonge, said Medical Doctors in Ondo State have endured months of neglect.
Alonge noted that for several months, the government has yet to enforce two critical federal circulars affecting Doctors’ remuneration and welfare.
He described the situation as unjust, stressing that the demands are longstanding and have been consistently ignored.
The NMA chairman further disclosed that doctors are still owed their 2024 promotion allowances, while no new health workers have been recruited to replace those who have exited the system.
He added that the few remaining Doctors are overstretched and working under extremely challenging conditions.
