The Ondo State House of Assembly has passed the bill for a law to establish the State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps to assist in maintaining law and order in the State.
The passage of the bill is sequel to recommendations gathered at the public hearing held on the bill two weeks ago.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Bamidele oleyelogun said the bill when passed into law will help check and reduce incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery and banditry.
The Assembly said the bill when signed into law would ensure a proper community policing body that would complement the efforts of other security agencies in the State.

The bill will now be sent to the State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for assent.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State House of Assembly at plenary on Tuesday also passed the bill to create the Amotekun Corps as a special unit of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps.
It passed the bill after taking the third reading of the amendment to the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps Agency Law 2019.
The amendment bill had successfully gone through all the different stages of lawmaking which includes first and second reading, holding of public hearing, laying and presentation of committee report, adoption of report by the Assembly, third reading and final passage.
After the voice vote approving the passage of the bill, the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa directed the Clerk of the Assembly, Azeez Sanni to send a clean copy to the Governor for his assent.

The new law expressly states that Amotekun Corps must not operate like the police, they are not to be hired and cannot follow politicians or be used for political purposes.
And that if you have spent 20 years and above in Lagos and are able to speak the language you are eligible for recruitment into the Amotekun Corps which will bear arms.
