One person lost his life in a gas tanker explosion in Ita-Oshin in Abeokuta-North local government area of Ogun State, South-West Nigeria.
A statement by the Public Education Officer in Ogun State Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps, FRSC, Chief Route Commander Florence Okpe, says five other people were injured and five vehicles engulfed in the flames.
The suspected cause of the crash was brake failure as the vehicle ran into road barricade leading to the explosion and engulfed other vehicles and shops.
The body of the victim has been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital in Abeokuta.
Meanwhile, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has expressed sympathy with victims of the gas explosion at Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta, the state capital.
Governor Abiodun, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran regretted the loss of life in the inferno and the attendant destruction of properties.
He, however, called for calm, assuring that everything was being done to put the situation under control.
The Governor acknowledged the quick intervention of relevant agencies of government and first responders, which brought the situation under control.
Governor Abiodun noted that relevant authorities have been mandated to ascertain the cause of the explosion and ensure that appropriate measures are put in place to prevent a recurrence.
