The Organized Labour has called for continued reforms that would promote employment creation, strengthening labour inspection, as well as adequate enforcement of occupational safety and health standards.
These were among other issues highlighted by the National Union of Chemical, footwear rubber leather, and non metallic products employees (NUCFLAMPE) at the 34th annual industrial relations seminar in Benin, Edo State capital.
Speaking on the theme, “Emerging Trends in Employment Contracts: Implications for Decent Work,” President of the Union Sunday Bolarinwa, said the evolving world of work has been accompanied by an alarming rise in practices that undermine job security and labour integrity.
He stressed that the future of work must not become the end of decent work.
The Union President said the gathering was aimed at charting a sustainable way forward for the union, the industrial sector, and the broader industrial relations landscape in Nigeria.
The General Secretary of the Union, Tunde Olagoke, called for greater synergy among stakeholders in the sector to enhance productivity and promote sustainable industrial development.
Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Edo State, Monday Lewis Igbafen, said contradictions in the world of work are deepening.
He noted that the heart of industrial peace lies in the quality of relationships among workers, employers, trade union, and government.
The gathering was attended by rank-and-file members of the union, as well as representatives of employers and government.
