The State Government also initiated a Coroner’s Inquest Panel of Inquiry into the shootings and killings reported at the Naira and Kobo Junction Motor Park in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.
The two panels of inquiry on pre-election violence and the Coroner’s Inquest into reported shootings and killings in Ikire took their oaths of office to examine the circumstances surrounding reported cases of killings, assaults, intimidation and destruction of property before and after the Osun State governorship election.
Giving the panels a marching order on behalf of the State Government, the Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, SAN, charged them to make clear findings and recommendations on possible prosecution or disciplinary action, compensation or relief for victims, and measures to prevent future incidents in the state.
The chairmen of the panels promised to carry out their assigned duties diligently, without bias or favour.
The panels are expected to commence their proceedings immediately and submit their findings as well as recommendations to the State Government at the end of the exercise.
