The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Osun state has vowed to resist the planned local government election, as announced by the state Electoral body, describing it as an infringement on the electoral act.
Caretaker Chairman of the party, Akindele Adekunle who stated this at a press briefing in Osogbo the state capital, called on the Inspector General of Police to take proactive steps to nip in the bud, what could be a breach of the peace in the state.
The Osun state Independent Electoral Commission, (OSSIEC) had announced October 15 as the date for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
The Chairman of the commission, Segun Oladitan said the election which will be the first in the last twelve years will be on a presidential system as against the parliamentary system the state has been practicing under the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Reacting to this announcement, the people’s Democratic Party, PDP said it has advised the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) not to allow itself to be used as a tool for illegality, stressing that the proposed election runs foul of the electoral act
Caretaker Chairman of the party, Akindele Adekunle described the sudden intention of the state government to conduct the local government election as a means of covering up financial infractions of the present administration.
He maintained that the masses of the state are eager and more than ready to resist any action by the ruling government to further impoverish them, calling on the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba to intervene in ensuring Peaceful atmosphere in the state
