The Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, has disclosed that the institution’s COVID-19 drugs will be ready soon.
Professor Ogunbodede broke the news during a media briefing heralding the events marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the university.

The Vice Chancellor said researchers from the university are working with state and federal governments to produce the COVID-19 drugs.
He said the institution has enjoyed various grants for research including the global competition of the COVID-19 African Rapid Grant Fund, stressing that the Obafemi Awolowo University has made some land mark research in the area of research.
Mentioning other achievements by the university, the Vice-Chancellor hinted that the institution is working with relevant agencies to generate its own electricity in order to reduce the economic burden of high electricity tariffs.
He identified the decline in funding by the government as a major challenge that has been hindering the undertaking of cutting-edge researches that the institution ought to have achieved.
