Kano State has at least 989,234 out-of-school children who are of primary school age. The United Nations Children’s Fund, Unicef Nigeria Country Representative, Cristian Munduate, said this at a media conference in Kano, North-West Nigeria.
She however says boys and girls have now reached 500,000 users of the Nigeria Learning Passport, with hopes to double the figure next year.

She added that there are 1.5 million girls enrolled in schools under Unicef Girls Education Project Phase 3, implemented between 2012 and 2022, in Kano, Bauchi, Katsina, Niger, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
According to Cristian, there is an urgent need for Nigeria to improve investment in the education sector, and redouble efforts aimed at addressing the critical issue, of out-of-school children.
