Ondo State Government says it is currently prosecuting over 100 suspected kidnappers, a move it believes will serve as a deterrent to others and stem the tide of terrorism in the state
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa made this known on Tuesday during a visit to Imafon and Ilado communities in Akure North Local Government Area, which have recently witnessed a surge in kidnapping cases.
Some residents of Imafon, Ilado, and adjoining communities came out in large numbers to express their grievances over the rising wave of kidnappings.
The situation, they say, has led to loss of lives and forced many to flee their homes.
Concerned by the incidents, Governor Aiyedatiwa, accompanied by security chiefs, visited the affected communities and the palaces of traditional rulers to commiserate with them and reassure residents of improved measures to safeguard lives and property.
The Governor and security chiefs pledged to intensify surveillance and strengthen the state’s security architecture to curb the menace.
Residents, however, expressed hope that government and security agencies will match their assurances with concrete action to ensure a safer Ondo State.
