The Gombe State Government has commenced the return of over 11,000 Almajiri children to their states of origin.
These include children aged three to 14 that were involved in the Tsangaya form of education.
The move is coming following the decision of the 19 Northern Governors to ban the Almajiri system with the increase of COVID-19 cases across states in the region.
It is a large scale movement of the affected children to their states of origin amid an uncertain future.
The initiative to return them home follows the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.

The Almajiri children in Gombe State were beneficiaries of the out-of-school programme but now they have to abandon the only chance they had at education.
However, as the over 11,000 children leave Gombe, the State is also to receive other children who will be returned to the State from other northern states.
