Police have confirmed that more than 30 suspected bandits were killed following a series of gun battles between security operatives and armed criminals in Bukuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria.
The confrontations reportedly involved police personnel working in collaboration with local civil security outfits.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Yazid Abubakar, confirmed this in a statement, saying the operation began on October 28, 2026, following an attempted attack by bandits in Bukuyum town.
According to the Police, security operatives swiftly engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, successfully repelling the assault and preventing the bandits from advancing into the town.
Following the confrontation, more than 30 bodies, believed to be those of neutralised bandits, were reportedly discovered in surrounding farmlands.
The Police said the discovery suggests that the attackers may have suffered significant casualties during the encounter.

However, the Command stressed that the actual number of casualties remains subject to further verification.
Preliminary security assessments also indicate that sustained operational pressure has forced some of the remaining bandits to flee the state.
The Zamfara State Police Command says it remains committed to sustaining ongoing operations in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to rid the area of criminal elements, restore public confidence and ensure the safety of residents.
