Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), polling 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast.
She defeated her closest challenger, Lateef Akangbe, SAN, who secured 7,934 votes (30.39 per cent), while Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, came third with 5,855 votes (22.43 per cent).
Other elected national officers include Oghenero Okoro, who emerged as First Vice President with 11,024 votes; Afam Okeke, elected General Secretary with 8,478 votes; Aghogho Gladys, who won the position of Assistant General Secretary with 14,312 votes; and Chinelo Audrey Ofoegbunam, elected Welfare Secretary with 14,911 votes, among other successful candidates.
Despite internal disagreements and an initial technical disruption that delayed the process, the NBA successfully concluded its 2026 national officers’ election.
After the declaration of the results, the outgoing NBA President, Afam Osigwe, SAN, acknowledged that the election faced significant challenges, including a cyberattack that nearly disrupted the process.
Osigwe added that the ECNBA would undertake a comprehensive review of the election, particularly the technical and operational challenges encountered, with a view to making recommendations that would strengthen confidence in future NBA electoral processes.
