It has been confirmed that occupants of an unidentified helicopter shot at a wooden boat conveying foodstuffs and drinks to Bonny in Rivers State.

The wooden boat, popularly called as Cotonou Boat had just set out for its journey from the Bonny-Nembe Jetty before the incident happened around the fishing settlement in Dutch Island in Okrika Local Government Area.

The yet to be identified helicopter hovered for few minutes before opening fire on the boat, injury all 5 passengers, including the boat pilot.




Though no life was lost, one of the victims, Auwal Rufai, who had a bullet extracted from his hand narrated all that happened to ait.live through an interpreter via telephone.
The medical doctor, Collins Yakubu, who is treating some of the victims said they were brought in with police extract which facilitated their treatment.
Efforts to reach the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, were not successful as he did not respond to the calls put through to his line.
