The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, marked its 28th Anniversary today, August 31st, with National Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Muhammed calling on members to draw strength from the party’s history and look ahead to a stronger future.
In an anniversary message to party leaders, stakeholders and supporters, the Chairman said the PDP, founded on August 31st 1998, emerged at a defining moment in Nigeria’s history carrying the hopes of Nigerians for democracy, unity, stability and development.
Hon. Muhammed recalled the party’s historic victory in the 1999 general elections and its years of providing leadership at the federal, state and local government levels.He described the PDP as “a major pillar of Nigeria’s democratic journey.”
Acknowledging the party’s challenges over the years, the National Chairman said the PDP has experienced both victories and setbacks.”Our journey has not been without challenges.
We have experienced victories and setbacks, moments of strength and periods that tested our unity. Yet, through it all, the PDP has endured because of the commitment, sacrifice and resilience of millions of faithfuls across Nigeria,” he said.
Looking to the future, Hon. Muhammed said the party must learn from its experiences and renew its commitment to its founding ideals.
“As we mark 28 years, we must draw strength from our history, learn from our experiences and renew our commitment to the ideals that brought us together. Our best days are not behind us; they are ahead of us,” he stated.
The PDP Chairman outlined what he called the road forward for the party: unity, reconciliation, discipline, inclusion and a renewed connection with the Nigerian people.
“Together, we shall rebuild, reposition and strengthen our Party as a credible platform for good governance, social justice, economic opportunity and a better Nigeria,” he added.
He called on every leader, stakeholder, member and supporter to remain steadfast and hopeful, stressing that “The PDP belongs to all of us, and its future is in our collective hands.”
On behalf of the National Working Committee, NWC, Hon. Muhammed thanked party members for their loyalty and unwavering faith in the PDP.
