The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chairman of Danja Local Government Area, Aminu Jiba and 1,759 other card carrying members of the party have dumped the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in Katsina state.

The other 1,759 decampees include all the ward executives from the area.

In a statement by the Director-General new Media, Al-Amin Isa, they were led to the Katsina government house by the member representing Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Amiru Tukur alongside his counterpart representing the area in the State Assembly, Shamsudeen Abubakar where Governor Aminu Masari received them.

The Governor while receiving them reassured all the decampees that the party will carry them along and will do all the needful to make them comfortable, same way with other card carrying members of the APC in the state.

Masari, happy with the development further assured them of his commitment towards completing all the major work going on in the area, particularly, the Danja Dam project, considering its socio-economic advantages to the people of the area.

According him, the State Government has since released the counterpart funds for the dam project, noting that the second phase will cover the construction of treatment plant and extension of the water to the irrigation site to allow for full time irrigation activities.

Similarly, another Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the State, Hamisu Gambo, and his supporters also defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, citing the leadership crisis rocking the party in the State and the purposeful leadership style of Masari as reasons for his defection.

Gambo before his defection, was an elder statesman, former parliamentarian and kinsman of Late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua.
