A former Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State, South-West Nigeria, Segun Sowunmi, says the party needs complete overhaul to reposition it for future elections in the country .
The PDP chieftain, who disclosed his intention to run for the National Chairmanship position of the party gave the disclosure while speaking on the state of the PDP during a media briefing organised by the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.
He also noted that the PDP is already working as a formidable opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in providing credible alternative policy options to the present administration.
Sowunmi also expressed concerns over the party’s recent electoral losses in three consecutive Governorship elections in Ogun State.
The PDP National Chairmanship hopeful who advised on the urgent need for the party to restructure its internal working mechanism for optimal capacity and efficiency, also called for a revisit of its core values and ideology in order to restore its lost glory.
It will be recalled that with the suspension of the party’s former National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the North-Central caucus has been pushing for the constitutional right of the zone to complete his four-year tenure which ends in October 2025
