It was an anti-climax as opposing groups in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP all sat down under one roof and agreed on the issue of the contentious National Secretary which appeared unresolved even after judgement of the Supreme Court.

But it is now official, Samuel Anyanwu is the party’s National Secretary and this follows the decision of the National Executive Committee, NEC at its 100th meeting which eventually held after so much uncertainty especially when the venue was taken over by security operatives in the early hours of the day.

The 100th National Executive Committee, NEC meeting of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP held amid tight security provided by personnel from various security agencies owing to confusing notices regarding the meeting.

Members of the party’s Board of Trustees, staff of the National Secretariat and journalists were initially not allowed entry into the Wadata Plaza which was supposed to be the venue of the meeting.

Simultaneously, members of the PDP Governors Forum were also having Caucus meeting deliberating on ways to resolve issues in the party as the Board of Trustees moved its meeting from the National Secretariat to the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre.

When all parties later met at the National Secretariat, in what appears to be an expanded Caucus meeting it was resolved that the meeting will be the contentious.National Executive Committee meeting agreed at the 99th NEC to hold on Monday, June 30.

Subsequently, the PDP leaders unanimously agreed to stop internal quarrels among members to enable the party focus on victory in upcoming elections.

After about 30 minutes of closed-door meeting, the PDP leaders resolved that that contentious issue of its National Secretary position be rested.

The 100th national executive committee, NEC MEETING of the People’s Democratic party, PDP held instead of the expanded Caucus meeting that threw up controversy prio to Monday’s agenda. The PDP says issues in the party will be reviewed and feasible resolutions arrived at.
