Peaceful Polls In Imo Despite Late Arrival Of election materials

The Presidential and National Assembly Elections in Imo state was peaceful without violence but witnessed late arrival of election materials at most polling units which resulted in late commencement of voting.

A visit to Owerri municipal council, Owerri North, Ikeduru, Mbaitoli, Owerri west and Oru east Local Government Areas indicates that accreditation and voting commenced at about noon.

Some prospective voters who were at Azuzii ward four Uzii primary school in Owerri municipal and Central School, Attah in Ikeduru Local Government areas including Susana Anyanwu 89 year old, told ait.live that they got to the Polling units as early as 6.30 in the morning to exercise their franchise but had to wait till around past ten o’clock for materials to arrive.

There was however a near breakdown of law and order at Akwakuma Girls Secondary School in Owerri north with three polling booths where materials arrived around one o’clock in the afternoon.

Imo state Governor Hope Uzodinma and wife after casting their vote at omuma in oru East, commended INEC for improving the electoral process.

The exercise was however seamless in some polling units like mputu in Mbaise where former governor Emeka Ihedioha. cast his vote at Government college Owerri and Ngwoma-obube primary school in Owerri north where senatorial candidate of the APC for Imo East Alex Mbata commended INEC for the efficiency of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System.
