2023 Election: Court Restrains Imo Governor, SSS, Others On Further Detention Of Ugochinyere

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has restrained the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma acting through or together with the Police, the State Security Service, and other security agencies from arresting, detaining the Spokesperson of opposition CUPP and PDP House of Representatives candidate for Ideato North and South Federal Constituency, Ikenga Ugochinyere.

Justice Ajoke Adepoju while delivering ruling also restrained governor Uzodinma from further charging Ugochinyere with any trumped up charges or allegations of commission of offences of treasonable felony, terrorism and other threats to national security.

The Judge in a ruling on an Exparte application brought by the CUPP Spokesperson, the Judge also granted prayers for substituted service of the originating processes on the Governor of Imo State and the Ebubeagu Security Network, to be served through any adult staff of the Imo State liaison office, Abuja.

The court also granted an order setting aside, any remand order against Ugochinyere while also restraining the Respondents from further invading the family house and residence of Ugochinyere in Ideato.

The trial Judge however adjourned the matter to March 1, 2023 for the hearing of the Motion on Notice.

Others in the suit are the Inspector General of police, deputy inspector general of police in charge of the federal investigation and intelligence bureau, Commissioner of Police and the Ebubeagu Security Network as 4th, 5th and 6th and 7th respondents respectively.
