Nigeria’s political actors and lawmakers have been encouraged to consider the model of electing leaders used by countries like Switzerland, some professional bodies and international organisations, to ensure stability and a rancour-free political trajectory ahead of future elections
The call was made by the president of the petroleum and Natural gas senior staff association, PENGASSAN, Festus Osifo on the sideline of a day of tribute for its late president, Francis Olabode Johnson.
Osifo who is also the president-general of the trade union congress of Nigeria, TUC maintains that such models if sincerely embraced would not only produce good quality and dedicated leaders, it will help instil sacrificial, sincere and selfless leadership system.
Osifo used the opportunity to clear the air that PENGASSAN is not any crisis related factionalisation warranting any plot of unrest in the oil and gas sector.
He challenged nay-sayers to desist from peddling crisis in the country’s oil and gas sector and called for support to what he described as “ongoing positive reforms” of the administration.
Many labour leaders extolled the virtues of the late PENGASSAN President, Francis Olabode Johnson, who died in 2019, describing his leadership style as uncommon.
