The Nigeria Union of pensioners, NUP has directed members across the thirty-six States to begin mass protest after the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum if the government failed to implement its adjustments on pensions.
President of NUP, Abel Afolayan at a briefing in Abuja said it is pathetic to note that senior citizens who have served the country will be denied their rights as embedded in the Constitution and 2014 Pension Act, as amended.

Afolayan said the Nigerian government must be seen not to have abandoned the demands of those he calls ‘suffocating’ senior citizens, as they are capable of going spiritual over perceived delay to attend to their requests.
