Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25 elections, Peter Obi, pays a condolence visit to the family of the slain Senatorial candidate for Enugu East District, Oyibo Chukwu.
Obi arrived at the family house of the late Chukwu at Amurri community in Nkanu East Local Government Area in the company of the party’s national leadership, the Enugu State Governorship candidate among other personalities.
The deceased was brutally murdered just two days to the election, prompting INEC to reschedule the polls in line with provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act.
Obi, dressed in all black attire, told the family that Oyibo Chukwu is a martyr of democracy in Nigeria, describing the circumstances of his death as a big tragedy, and a great loss not only to the family, and community but to Enugu State and Nigeria at large. He assures that the national leadership of the Party will not abandon the family.
Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure and the Enugu State Governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeoga also condoled with the deceased family and prayed God to comfort them.

The elder brother of late Oyibo, Lucky Chukwu who spoke on behalf of the family expressed their appreciation to Peter Obi and the party’s national leadership for the visit to identify with them at this sad moment.
Oyibo Chukwu who was former Chairman of the Oji River branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA was shot and burnt to death inside his vehicle on the night of February 22, 2023 just two days to the Nigerian National Assembly elections where he was the Labour Party candidate for the Enugu East Senatorial district.
