The Peter Obi Media Office has condemned Vice President Kashim Shettima over his description of former Anambra State Governor and NDC Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, as “diminished,” describing the comment as an affront to political decency.
In a statement issued this Sunday, the media office accused the Vice President of displaying selective respect by urging Northerners to respect opposition leader Atiku Abubakar while allegedly disparaging Peter Obi.
The office maintained that Obi had conducted his political engagements with decorum, focusing on issues rather than personal attacks against political opponents.
It also highlighted Obi’s record as Governor of Anambra State, particularly in education, healthcare and fiscal discipline, arguing that his performance compared favourably with Shettima’s tenure as governor of Borno State.
The statement challenged the Vice President to present facts and evidence if he disputed Obi’s record, rather than resorting to what it described as political name-calling.
The Peter Obi Media Office further urged South-East political leaders, particularly those in the All Progressives Congress, to reject political loyalty that tolerates disrespect toward fellow Nigerians.
It stressed that political debates should centre on candidates’ records, policies and ideas rather than personal attacks and selective displays of respect.
The statement concluded that Peter Obi’s political relevance would ultimately be determined by the Nigerian electorates, not by the remarks of political opponents.
