A high-powered General Purpose Machine Gun has been recovered by the Plateau State Police Command after suspected bandits abandoned the weapon while fleeing a gun battle with police operatives in Barkin Ladi.

The recovery is part of a wider crackdown on criminal activities in the state, which has also led to the seizure of other firearms and ammunition and the arrest of several suspects.

This Fabrique Nationale MAG 58, a 7.62 by 51 millimetre belt-fed General Purpose Machine Gun, is among the major weapons recovered by the Plateau State Police Command.

Police say suspected bandits abandoned the GPMG in the bushes of Barkin Ladi following a fierce gun battle with officers.

Two AK-47 rifles, a Beretta pistol, a locally fabricated firearm, and assorted ammunition were also recovered during the operations.

Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan said the recoveries demonstrate the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations and the fight against criminality across Plateau State.

He also provided details of suspects arrested in connection with various offences.

The recovery of weapons is significant for the police operation in Plateau State, as the command intensifies efforts to disrupt the activities of armed criminal groups and prevent further attacks on communities.

Commissioner Faniyan noted that the police are closing in on other suspected criminals, assuring residents that those arrested will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
