Plateau State Government says it has contained the cholera outbreak recorded in two local government areas of the state since July.

The state is now winding down an oral cholera vaccination exercise in affected communities, as part of measures to prevent a resurgence of the disease.

Kabong in Jos North Local Government Area was one of the communities in the two local government areas affected by the cholera outbreak. Mangu is the other affected council area.

Health workers are administering oral cholera vaccines to residents as the government intensifies efforts to protect communities from further transmission.

The exercise has recorded encouraging turnout, with residents cooperating with health officials.

Field officers of the Plateau State Ministry of Health say the response has been encouraging, with plans for mop-up vaccination in areas where some residents may have been missed.

State Commissioner for Health, Nicholas Baamlong, says the outbreak has been successfully contained, while surveillance and preventive measures are being sustained to guard against a recurrence.

The Plateau State Government says it will continue surveillance, monitoring and follow-up activities across affected communities to ensure the state remains cholera-free.
