Plateau State Government says more than 17,000 patients benefited from its recently concluded statewide mega medical outreach, which recorded no fatalities.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, made this known while briefing journalists on the outcome of the exercise.
According to Dr. Baamlong, the free medical outreach, conducted across the three senatorial zones of the state, recorded a turnout far above the projected 6,000 patients.
He said more than 17,000 patients were attended to, representing about 193% above the initial target, with beneficiaries receiving various medical services, including surgical procedures.
The Commissioner further disclosed that 26 babies were delivered through Caesarean sections during the exercise, adding that no deaths were recorded throughout the statewide programme.
Dr. Baamlong also dismissed suggestions that the outreach was politically motivated.
He, however, assured that patients requiring specialised and high-tech surgical procedures, who were referred during the exercise, would continue to receive attention at the Plateau Specialist Hospital, the Jos University Teaching Hospital and Potter’s Medical Centre.
He said the State Government remains committed to improving access to quality healthcare services for residents.
