Police now have in custody, one Emmanuel Victor who allegedly shot and killed a 500-level student of the Abia State University, Emmanuel Uche, in what is suspected to be a cult clash.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Chinaka Maureen told newsmen in Umuahia that operatives of the State Command have achieved significant success in the fight against armed robbery, kidnapping, and vandalism of public assets, among other violent crimes.
In a viral video which surfaced on-line recently, Emmanuel Victor was seen shooting a suspected student in front of a property security agents identified as Miracle Lodge in Uturu which is a University community in Abia State.
While parading the suspect in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, the Police spokesperson, Chinaka Maureen says a team of Police detectives from the Command, acting on credible intelligence apprehended the suspect, Emmanuel Victor at Isiukwuato.
The suspect claims that a member of a rival cult group where the deceased student, Emmanuel Uche belonged to, was the first to shot at him and his own gang members, before they returned fire, resulting in the fatality.
Another, 111 suspects including three females were also apprehended for various other offenses across the State in massive security operations to keep Abia safe.
State Police Commissioner, Kenechukwu Onwumelie, who spoke to journalists says, the Command has been collaborating with other partners and stakeholders that have different roles to play in crime prevention through what he termed, “environmental design”.
Records from the Command show that 23 locally made single barrel shotguns, 8 double barrel shotguns, 11 stolen vehicles and 12 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, among numerous items, were recovered from suspects, within the period under review.
