In a continuous effort to protect and safeguard public property, police in Niger State, North-Central Nigeria say they have succeeded in arresting seven more suspects for illegal mining and vandalism at Gurara waterfalls.
Confirming the development in a statement, police state command spokesperson, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, said the incident occurred on March 22nd at about 5pm.
According to the police, acting on the report, the seven suspects aged between 25 and 40 were arrested after police operatives attached to Gawu-Babangida Division conducted a raid operation within the facility.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects are two water pump engines, 14 carpets, six shovels, three diggers, two pipes, and seven head pans.
Abiodun added that all suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the police further added that earlier on 17th March at about 4pm, a similar raid was carried out in the same facility, and eight suspects were arrested with the recovery of 13 shovels, six diggers, 13 head pans, 24 carpets, etc.
The raid operations continue as the fight against illegal mining and vandalism will be sustained.
