The Kwara State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping and violent crimes with the arrest of five suspected kidnappers and the recovery of arms and ammunition.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Kwara State Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the suspects were arrested during a coordinated operation by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Team, working alongside local vigilantes and forest guards at Oke-Iya Community on April 23, 2026.
Three of the suspects were linked to the recent invasion of Idiya community where five persons were kidnapped, while further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects connected to the crime after two victims reportedly escaped from captivity.

Recovered exhibits include a locally fabricated revolver rifle modified to fire AK-47 ammunition and eight rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.
The Command says investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
